The Studio

Founded in 2014 by architects Keith and Rosianne Schembri, KEIRO Architecture and Design has grown into a dynamic studio with a passion for innovative and thoughtful design. Our portfolio spans a diverse range of residential, commercial, and hospitality projects, many of which have been recognized and awarded both locally and internationally.

At KEIRO, we believe in crafting visions and building futures. Our design philosophy is rooted in a profound respect for both tradition and innovation. We create spaces that are not only functional and aesthetically compelling but also deeply connected to their environment and cultural context. In 2024, KEIRO Architecture and Design was honoured in the hospitality category for our work on ONE80 Izakaya, a distinctive dining experience located on the sister island of Gozo.   • Our one80 Izakaya project in Mgarr, Gozo, has been featured on the prestigious BIGSEE website.

    Our collaboration with one80 Concept on this project allowed us to delve deeply into the rich tapestry of Japanese aesthetics. From the selection of warm wood finishes to the intricate tilework and sleek metal accents, every element was chosen to reflect the harmony and balance intrinsic to Japanese tradition. The resulting space is a contemporary yet authentic expression of Japanese dining culture, offering patrons a truly immersive experience.

    Our work on one80 tal-Belt has not only resonated with diners but also with the design community, earning us the prestigious MASP Public Award in 2022. This accolade, presented by the Planning Authority, recognizes outstanding contributions to architectural design and the enhancement of our environment. The inclusion of our project in the MASP 2022 publication, which showcases the best architectural projects in Malta, is a true honour.   • Around this time last year, the sister isle welcomed a unique foodie concept the likes of which Malta and Gozo hadn’t seen before. The sleek Vini e Capricci by Abraham’s, a product of owner Abraham Said’s vision and the stellar work by the team at KEIRO Architects, brought together a state-of-the-art wine cellar with a cutting-edge kitchen and suite, combining a whiskey lounge, retail space and vinoteca in a welcoming space where the public can not only purchase but also experience quality food and wine first-hand.   • Engaging KEIRO for our design and architectural needs for our two latest projects within our Group was a decision we will not regret for the expansion of our brand.

    The projects are ‘one80 St. Christopher Str. Valletta, Malta’ and ‘one80 Izakaya, Mgarr Gozo’.

    KEIRO demonstrated professionalism, skill, innovation and time management for our two projects happening mutually in a set time frame 2022 Q3 and Q4 and 2023 Q1. They have created the design aspects of the projects and gave them identity in line to our brief and vision. The design was so professionally executed, the Valletta restaurant project won the People’s Choice Award in the MASP Awards Ceremony hosted by the Planning Authority.

    KEIRO is a one-stop shop and made the process easier since apart from our design needs they also assisted us with the notarial requirements for the two projects, one of which required inception from construction stage. KEIRO sourced the contractors and took over the management of the projects on the floor whilst allowing us to continue focusing on our other outlets already in operation within the Group.

    Keith and Rosianne Schembri were always on call, approachable and by our side for anything that needed their support during the process.

    We will undoubtedly engage KEIRO with any future projects or needs for one80.

  • We engaged KEIRO for the construction and design of our new dental clinic. The project presented a number of challenges in terms of conversion restrictions due to site located in an area of conservation and limited site floor area. Keith and Rosianne were in for the challenge and have managed to extend the floor area usage whilst incorporating an outstanding design. KEIRO team not only focused on a design that allows the surgeons to work in a professional setting but also kept in mind the needs of anxious patients by providing a relaxed ambience to provide an enjoyable experience at the dentist.

    We are glad to have worked with KEIRO on our project and look forward to working with the team again in the future.
